5 Simple Steps Checking your UPS Battery Backup

There is time that power outage causes a loss of files and information you are working on. Having UPS (an abbreviation stands for Uninterruptible Power Supply) can help protecting your data by supplying power a while longer so you can backup your data before the power fails to work. However, any electronic devices have its lifetime; it is wise to make sure if your UPS still works properly or not. Here are five simple steps to check your UPS battery backup.


First of all, plug AC cable of your UPS into power outlet and turn on the power. If the power light is lit, it means your UPS still works as it supposes to. If not, then that means your UPS battery backup is damaged and may not charge the battery as usual.

Then, consult with user manual and charge the battery for the amount of time that stated in the manual. The size of your battery is what set the time of charging.

Next, you will need to reset the internal circuit breaker by pressing the reset button that is located either on the back or the top of the unit.

After pressing the reset button, plug in the AC cable of your monitor into "Surge Protector & Battery Backup" outlets that located on the rear of the UPS unit, and turn the power on. Note that the UPS may have many outlets, but only some of them provide battery power.

Once you are done following the previous steps, unplug the AC cable of the UPS. If the unit works properly, it will keep the power for your monitor on. However, if your monitor loses power, that means your UPS battery is damaged and you probably need to find a new UPS battery backup.
